Harvey Mudd, which was opened in 1957, came from humble beginnings. The first class was taught in borrowed classrooms or the homes of the professors, and had one dorm that was still incomplete. Two years later, the College held its first commencement ceremony for two students who had transferred their junior year. Today, Harvey Mudd has roughly 800 students, and is the nation's top liberal arts college of engineering, science, and mathematics. It is also one of the seven members of The Claremont Colleges.
